Shift Resistance and Writer’s Block Using Your Body
Learn how to unlock your writing process using somatic healing practices that help you understand your nervous system’s behaviour (and how it’s connected to feeling stuck), so you can finally write your stories with ease.
Tuesday January 21st
6am Pacific Time | 9am Eastern Time
What if there was a way for your body to become your most trusted creative ally in your writing process?
By learning how to use the power of somatic, body-based healing practices to connect with yourself and unblock the resistance you feel in your writing practice, you’ll be able to devote yourself to:
writing, instead of trying to figure out how to get the writing flowing
catching yourself before you go into resistance by recognizing how and when your nervous system is asking for your attention, so you can keep writing instead of getting frustrated
completing your projects, instead of looking around in despair at ideas and half-started stories

What others are saying about this workshop
What makes me qualified to teach this workshop?
I’ve been working as a somatic healer, specializing in the nervous system, trauma healing and the fascia connective tissue for 17+ years, while also teaching adults writing and critical thinking for 20+ years.
I help people like you write their memoirs, reclaim their lives and reconnect with their bodies so they can feel at ease with their lives and their stories.
I’ve got a particular passion for our individual and cultural stories, a deep reverence for the power of the stories our body holds for us.
I work with creative, sensitive big-hearted folk, helping them to grow, heal and thrive.
I’m also a published writer and have taught creative arts, writing and healing workshops online and in person for almost as long.
I’m skilled at braiding creativity and body-wisdom together with deep cultural knowing and self exploration (and life stories and memoirs are a great way to do that) to create spaciousness, ease and joy in our lives.
What this means for you is that I’ve got an uncommon ability to listen deeply, ask useful questions, see patterns, draw threads together and guide you towards your goals.
My trainings are in Somatic Experiencing and Rolfing (Hellerwork Structural Integration) as well as a multitude of annual continuing education credits.

Totally fine.
But, if you’re experiencing writer’s block and resistance, your nervous system is likely holding a bit of charge related to a fight/flight/freeze response. These aren’t necessarily big ‘T’ traumas. They can be little ‘t’ accumulated stressors that are stressing your system out in a way that’s expressing as creative block.
They could be as simple as a dental procedure that, to you, felt pretty minor, but added just that little bit of overwhelm in your nervous system, that’s now set you a bit off-kilter.
So, you definitely don’t have to be writing in order to heal to gain insight and useful tools and techniques from this workshop! -
We’re actually using our bodies all the time, because our consciousness lives in our bodies.
Even our thoughts need somewhere to be, which is our brain, in our noggin.
What I mean by using your body is being more deliberate and intentional about tuning into what our body is telling us, and then actively interacting with our body’s communication methods (the senses) to learn more about how to work with our whole self rather than suppressing parts.
All of this benefits our creative work, because then we get less stuck in resistance!

Thanks for asking.
I’ve got an exceptional amount of skill, training and experience in interviewing, writing, working with people one-on-one in a healing environment, and drawing out stories.
I’ve been working as a trauma-informed Structural Integrator (Rolfing) doing one-on-one hands-on healing bodywork for 17+ years, am a couple months away from full certification as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, which is all about trauma healing through nervous system work, and I’ve teaching individuals and groups for 20+ years.
I’m also a published writer with a BA in Anthropology, an MA in Dance and a Diploma in Hellerwork Structural Integration. I’ve worked as a research assistant at Yukon Archives, as a teacher and teaching assistant at various colleges and universities, and taught creative writing and healing workshops online and in person.
I’m a great listener and I’m always attuned for patterns, deeper meanings and great stories.
I have an appreciation for context, history, and take the role of helping people birth their creations into the world very seriously (without forgetting that fun is important!)

Yes, I always send out a replay right after the workshop ends.
The replay is usually available for between 6 to 10 days, so make sure to plan to watch the replay soon!
This workshop is in honour of my two grandfathers, both traumatised war veterans who never received any healing support. What we now understand as PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) was simply called ‘shell shock’ and men were expected to deal with it.
Dealing with it looked, for many, like self-medication through alcoholism and dysfunction.
Their stories lived in their bodies without being fully processed and healed, and, as often happens with that kind of unprocessed trauma, was visited on their loved ones as abuse.
It is for all creatives who’ve yet to receive healing support for their inherited and directly experienced traumas, I teach this work.
