"Janelle’s 10 Days of Darkness series is breathtaking.
The blend of storytelling, music, and somatic exercises were thoughtful, reflective, healing, and rejuvenating.
Exactly what I needed during this time of year, and at this stage of my creative journey."
-E. Ce Miller, writer, USA

We live in a culture that encourages doing over being.
A culture that values activity over contemplation, production over the hidden benefits of lying fallow.
But how can we do the things we do without a foundation of self-knowledge and deep connection to our own internal landscape, our own values?

Honouring the Darkness is about reconnecting with yourself in the silent and sacred spaces of winter.
Honouring the Darkness is a soulful swim into your relationship with darkness. Aloneness. Nurturance.
It’s an exploration of songs, stories and mythology that honour the times of retreat and the spaces that are sacred.
Over the course of 10 e-mails we’ll explore one thing each day, such as:
the Goddess Sheila Na Gig
Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah song
ideas of wombs and of sacred spaces, real, imagined and self-created
Romanian Semantron music
and more
It is through this slowing into retreat that we come to understand and honour our own selves.

This is a 10-day experience composed of gently curated daily e-mails with optional writing prompts, ending on winter solstice (December 21st.)
plus a follow-up e-mail with further resources.
Designed so you can slow down and enjoy the season.

Hi there!
My name is Janelle and I help people like you write their memoirs, reclaim their lives and reconnect with their bodies so they can feel at ease with their lives and their stories.
I grew up in the far north of Canada, the Yukon, on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dün and Ta’an Kwäch’än First Nations.
The north is known as both the land of the summertime midnight sun, and, in the winter, the land of the longest night, which is Winter Solstice, December 21st.
I grew up celebrating winter solstice as a turning point. The day after which, slowly and incrementally, light started to stretch out the days, even while winter felt like it was dragging on forever.
In a winter season (for those of us in the northern hemisphere) which can feel so busy and hectic, so many of us have an overwhelming desire to get cosy, slow down and hibernate.
To go inward, towards the darkness.
So I created this free annual gift of contemplation and writing prompts.
It’s much loved, and designed to support you in slowing down, getting softer, and enjoying all the ways we can honour the darkness and embrace it’s quiet gifts.
I can’t wait to hear about what you get from honouring the darkness this year!
